1991—Georg Solti-R

A—Ky—Broad, formal, reverent

A—Ch—Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz; operatic, meaningful, lots of vibrato

A—Gl—Joyous, exuberant; chorus just a little muddy in runs

A—LT—Anne Sofie von Otter; folklike, secular; singer & orchestra both restrained, serious; more a maypole than a tavern song; lacks bounce, attitude

A—Gr—Broad, reverent, a little muddy

A—DD—unhurried, a little draggy; smooth, integrated duet, no battle

A—QT—Fast, but maintains good stagger & seriousness; helped by slowing tempo in soft parts

A—Qu—Energetic, having some fun; voices good individually & together; tenor occasionally drops out

A—JC—Same

A—CSS—Crisp, energetic, no muddiness here; good balance of chorus & orchestra; climactic cadence slow to develop

A—Cr—Joyous, crackling; Chickens at 2 & 3, but not 1

A—Et—Elizabeth Norberg-Schulz; sweetly operatic; would have been sweeter with less vibrato and meaningful swells; just a little shrill on high notes; sudden awkward breath in cadenza

A—S—Rafter-rattling chorus, not matched by brass

A—H—Lovely articulation of crisp voice entrances; vigorous, upbeat, like a crowd shouting to each other

A—B—Voices joyful, upbeat, good together & individually, except tenor still gets lost sometimes; detached strings at B
