1986—Gary Bertini-E

A—Ky—Stately, impassioned; good dialogue with orchestra

A—Ch—Arleen Auger; tenderly operatic; sweet, clear voice

A—Gl—Joyous, exuberant

C—LT—Doris Soffel; Operatic, warbly; voice has an unpleasant edge; trouble with low notes near end

C—Gr—Smooth, hymnlike, listless, restrained, draggy

B—DD—The very different characters of S1 and S2 make for good tension and a decent battle; I really don’t like the way S2 slides down from her high B flat and high A near the end

A—QT—Serious, sober, good stagger

A—Qu—Brisk, jaunty; good presence of all 3 voices

A—JC— Same

A—CSS—Broad, driving; less than dramatic climactic cadence

A—Cr—Slightly muddy voices; no chickens

A—Et—Arleen Auger; Sweet, tender love song

A—S—Exultant, bright; good brass

A—H—Crisp, clear voice entrances; good balance with orchestra

A—B—Joyful, playful; all 4 voices assert and blend well; detached strings at B
