1997—Peter Maag-?

Probably R

A—Ky—Solemn, churchy, a little restrained; I like the prominence of the timpani; not so sure about prominence of trombone doubling the altos

A—Ch—Lynda Russell; vocalise; neutral tone

B—Gl—Lyrical, hymnlike; lacks punch

B—LT—Mila Vilotijevic; Vocalise; smooth; lackluster; breathes in some strange places; orchestra restrained; big, unnecessary ritardando at end of B

A—Gr—Smooth, restrained

C—DD—Smooth, integrated, no battle; singers sound bored; S1 chokes on her second high note (live performance)

B—QT—No passion, no stagger, no pain, but not a cakewalk, either; smooth; I like the prominence of the trombones at mm 44-46

B—Qu—No energy; smooth, restrained, integrated, waiting for their entrances rather than talking to each other

A—JC—Same

C—CSS—Smooth, restrained, no spirit, lacks punch; little buildup in climactic cadence

B—Cr—Dull, muddy; chickens only at 2

C—Et—Lynda Russell; detached vocalise; lovely voice; just a little shrill on high notes; adds a little cadenza of her own before Mozart’s—jarring; too many breaths in cadenza

B—S—Draggy; too smooth & restrained to be majestic

B—H—Again, smooth & restrained, would be helped by a little shouting

A—B—Good pace; good individual & blended voices, which actually have a little animation; detached strings at B
